Fireproof glass is very common in daily buildings and has a wide range of applications, but there are still some problems that cannot be ignored in the actual application and supervision process. For example, how to use fireproof glass correctly? What type of fireproof glass is used? Where can fireproof glass be used? There are still many blind spots in the practical application of these issues, and many construction units, design units, and construction units have misconceptions and use errors, and do not know how to grasp them. Today, let's take a look at the four key issues that cannot be ignored in the practical application of fireproof glass.
1. Fire resistant glass and fire resistant glass partitions are not separated
In the design of some buildings, which require both fire separation and aesthetic transparency, fireproof glass partitions will be used as fire separation measures, such as boutique partitions in performance-based commercial pedestrian streets, glass firewalls in large commercial spaces, and observation windows in observation shafts. However, designers often label fireproof glass partitions instead of fireproof glass partitions on the drawings, while fire reviewers typically only propose to label fireproof glass partitions for a few hours, without requiring designers to clarify the detailed node construction practices of fireproof glass partitions on the drawings. In actual construction, it is common practice for the construction party to purchase fireproof glass according to the design requirements. The fireproof glass is fixed in the frame according to the common glass partition method, and the glass joints are injected with glass glue. Simply speaking, it is considered that the splicing of fireproof glass together is a fireproof glass partition wall, which meets the fire protection requirements. Upon acceptance, it is sufficient to submit a test report of the fireproof glass.
All of this ignores the fact that fireproof glass partitions are composed of fireproof components such as fireproof glass, frames, sealing materials, and cushion blocks, and are a complete system. Fireproof glass is only a component of a fireproof glass partition wall, which must be installed in combination with inlaid frames and fireproof sealing materials to form a fireproof glass partition wall and meet the corresponding fire resistance limit standards of the specification.
2. Problems needing attention when adding spray protection to fireproof glass
Relevant experiments at home and abroad have shown that selecting appropriate water spray system protection can effectively extend the time when a single piece of fireproof glass reaches the point of loss of thermal insulation and street facing radiation, effectively extend the fire insulation time, and ensure personnel evacuation. Currently, this type of design is widely used in performance-based design such as large-scale commercial pedestrian streets, and is protected by a single piece of non insulating fireproof glass plus water spray system to provide thermal insulation. The key to such engineering practices is the water distribution effect of spray protection, as experiments have shown that once the spray protection is lost, the single piece of fireproof glass will quickly lose its role in smoke and fire prevention.
However, there are many problems in the design and construction. For example, some shops on both sides of the commercial pedestrian street directly use the decoration modeling on the fireproof glass, which affects the water distribution effect of the sprinkler; Some will install the nozzle under the decorated brand door head, affecting the heat collection of the nozzle; Some door heads are installed between fireproof glass and sprinklers, causing shielding; Some construction units have not set up the pipes of this spray protection system separately, sharing the same pipe with other sprays, resulting in the spray water volume and duration not meeting the design requirements; Some construction units use the wrong type of nozzle. In short, during construction, it should be noted that the sprinkler can effectively protect the fireproof glass used for separation in a timely manner.

3. Misunderstandings in the design and construction of fireproof glass partition walls
At present, many design units do not design engineering practices, and construction units have misconceptions about the test report of fire resistant glass. They believe that as long as the selected fire resistant glass has a test report, they can ignore that the fire resistant test is not just a few page test report, but a complete set of systematic information describing the detailed dimensions, material use, and fire resistance performance of the fire resistant system. "Glass for Building Safety - Part 1: Fireproof Glass" (GB15763.1-2009) provides a detailed description of the types, thicknesses, shapes, dimensions, assembly details, node diagrams, and even the size and location of fixing screws of various frame materials and accessories used in the system during testing. According to the provisions on fire resistance in Article 7.3, the size of the sample of fireproof glass subjected to fire shall be selected from the actual size used for testing, and shall not be less than 1200mm × 700mm。
The fixed frame and installation method used in the experiment should be the same as those used in the actual project, and the fixed frame and installation method should be recorded using drawings or other equivalent methods. However, in practical projects, in order to achieve a good visual effect of transparency, the construction unit often selects glass sizes that exceed the inspection requirements in the fire resistant glass inspection report, and the fixed frame and installation method of the fire resistant glass are not used in the inspection report, resulting in the inability to determine its fire resistance limit during acceptance. The construction unit needs to resubmit the fire resistant glass for inspection according to the actual size of the project, if it fails to pass the inspection, The construction unit needs to choose and purchase fireproof glass again or reinstall it, resulting in a large amount of waste. Therefore, the construction unit and the construction unit should submit the selected products together with the construction method to be selected to the national professional testing department for inspection before construction, and then carry out construction after passing the inspection.
4. Problems in fire supervision
Some supervisors mistakenly believe that a door made of fireproof glass is a fireproof door, a partition wall made of fireproof glass is a fireproof glass partition wall, and a window made of fireproof glass is a fireproof window. It should be clearly understood that fireproof glass, fireproof glass partition walls, fireproof doors, and fireproof windows are completely different fire-fighting products, and corresponding inspection reports should be checked. Fireproof doors should also have type inspection reports.
During the inspection, it is not necessary to simply inquire about the fire resistance limit of fire resistant glass, but rather carefully check whether the size of fire resistant glass in the inspection report is consistent with on-site practices. The fire resistance limit of a fireproof glass partition wall also depends on the frame structure and the connection and fixation method between the glass and the frame. During the inspection, it should also be checked whether the engineering practice of the fireproof glass partition wall is installed and constructed in accordance with the construction process provided by the manufacturer. For example, because the thermal insulation type frame system uses composite thermal insulation type fireproof glass, the gel inside the glass will foam and expand when heated, so there should be a certain gap between the glass and the frame during installation; The non thermal insulation type frame system uses a single piece of fireproof glass, which can soften and sag in a fire. Therefore, when installing the frame system, the glass should be tightly clamped and no gaps should be left.
